The Van Gogh of the Banjo

Love that sign!
Carter played his first official HMJB gig December 20th at the Center Theatre in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine — the town that just one name couldn’t contain. They had to give it two names. We finished up the theatre’s “Saturday Night” concert series. We were billed as, “a most unusual Holiday finale.” Fair enough.
Carter came through with flying colors and with barely a scratch. The crowd really took to him and we took to the beautiful theatre and ultra-swell folks who run it and the local chamber of commerce. Thanks Ed! Thanks Russ! We should also thank (one more time) the show’s sponsor A E. Robinson Oil Company.

A pretty little package.

That's the ticket.

The Van Gogh of the Banjo
Yep, the rumors are true, we have a brandy-new, interactive website and a real-live new guy in the band. This is what he looks like…

His name is Carter Ruff and he comes to us via his Bath, Maine workshop where he builds and repairs guitars and other stringed instruments. He’s the proprietor of Subterranean Music Works.
Carter hails originally from Harrisonburg in the Commonwealth of Virginia and comes with a boatload of musical skills. He’s a slide guitar whiz, a mandolin master and can toot a mean clarinet. We asked him to join the band in 2005, but he’s a careful thinker and just came around a couple of months ago.
Some of you may recognize Carter from “Jug Band Army” where he played some slide guitar and made a memorable comedic appearance on “White Boy Blues.” He’s all over our new CD, too. But more on that later.
Carter is stepping into the gaping hole left in the band as we bid a fond farewell to Glen Bolduc who rocked the joint with his mighty, mighty trumpet and tasty mandolin playing for the last four years. Glen’s growing family and nursing school made time short and decisions had to be made. We’ll miss you old buddy. Take care of Clara and your adorable brood.
Keep it tuned here folks for more news and pictures on upcoming gigs and the new CD which will be ready soon!
